Our mission
The CTE Society is a nonprofit organization that helps families, athletes, veterans and the public understand chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). We follow the research, explain it in plain English, and point people toward trustworthy sources of help.
What we do
- Explain the research. Our Research page summarizes new studies and reporting on CTE, grouped by the questions families ask most, with a link to every original source.
- Share people’s stories. Who is CTE records confirmed cases across sports and military service, along with people speaking publicly about living with symptoms.
- Keep you up to date. Our free Research & Media Alerts email brings a monthly summary of CTE news and research, plus occasional breaking news.
- Connect people with help. Our Resources page lists organizations that support patients, families and caregivers.
How we work
- We link to the original study or reporting for everything we summarize, so you can check it yourself.
- Today CTE can only be confirmed by examining the brain after death. We list someone as a confirmed case only when a brain bank, neuropathologist, medical examiner or coroner has reported the finding.
- We never say a living person has CTE. When people describe their own symptoms, we report it in their words.
- We don’t give medical advice. If you’re worried about symptoms, please talk with a doctor.
